Who are you, and what do you like to learn about? (academically, professionally, and/or personally)
My name is Hossein and I am originally from Iran. Have a computer engineering degree from University of Tennessee and worked in the computer field for over 30 years. Currently work for George Mason university as a senior application architecture developing custom website using Microsoft technology. Currently pursuing a masters degree in Instructional Design and Technology.
What hardware do you use to learn? (Eg. smart phone, tablet, laptop, desktop)
Most of my learning is on my MacBook Air. Because it is hard for me to read long text, I use Amazon Kindle HD 6 for listening to my textbook. I also use my Samsung phone to listen to other file types like PDF.
What software do you use to learn? (Eg. search engines, mobile apps, social networks, eBooks, digital libraries, wikis, blogs, videos, podcasts)
I do most of my learning by searching in Google. It has become a habit for me to search facts and details. Even when watching a movie I start searching facts about what is happening inside a movie or a book. Most of the time my primary search turns into secondary subjects. I even double check the facts that I discover.
What digital tools do you wish you had access to for learning? (Eg. any graphic organizers, mind-mapping tools, resource management tools, progress tracking tools, design tools, etc.) Why?
Ever since I learned how computers function and their possibilities I had a dream to have a personal Artificial Intelligence companion. An AI companion who would act as my interface to the digital domain.
What might your ideal Personal Learning Environment (PLE) look like?
My AI companion would be my ideal PLE. He would know my way of thinking and act both as a companion and a mentor. He would help me search the way I want to and help me stay interested in the subject. He would understand my background and present state, and guide me to a higher level of learning. He would argue with me about the things I have misunderstood and broaden my limited understanding. He would bring me the vast amount of information available on Internet, yet at the same time allow me to focus on one single point of interest to me.
This may not become a reality in my time, but this is a dream I had held on to for about 30 years.
